What we collect
We collect only information needed to provide the service: parent contact details, child first name or nickname, school year, learning progress, questions submitted for support, subscription status, and security/device information. Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and are not stored by BrightSum.
How we use it
We use information to run learner accounts, personalise learning, answer support questions, process subscriptions, prevent misuse, meet legal obligations and improve the service. We will not sell children’s information or use it for behavioural advertising.
Children and parents
BrightSum is designed for children, but a parent or guardian creates and manages the account. Children under 13 must not provide consent for optional data uses themselves. Parent controls and high-privacy settings are used by default.
Sharing and retention
We share data only with suppliers needed to run BrightSum, such as secure hosting, payment and authorised tutoring/support providers. We keep account information while an account is open and for up to 12 months afterwards unless a longer period is required by law. Financial records are kept for the legally required period.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict use of your personal data, or object to certain processing. Contact support@brightsum.co.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
